BOOK OVERVIEWS: Firsthand accounts from the attorneys and advocates who brought the historic cases and fought to secure the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. The June 2015 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges was a sweeping victory for the freedom to marry, but it was one step in a long process. Love Unites Us is the history of activists’ passion and persistence in the struggle for marriage rights for same-sex couples in the United States, told in the words of those who waged the battle. Launching the fight for the freedom to marry had neither an obvious nor an uncontested strategy. To many activists, achieving marriage equality seemed far-fetched, but the skeptics were proved wrong in the end. Proactive arguments in favor of love, family, and commitment were more effective than arguments that focused on rights and the goal of equality at work. Telling the stories of people who loved and cared for one another, in sickness and in health, cut through the antigay noise and moved people—not without backlash and not overnight, but faster than most activists and observers had ever imagined. With compelling stories from leading attorneys and activists including Evan Wolfson, Mary L. Bonauto, Jon W. Davidson, and Paul M. Smith, Love Unites Us explains how gay and lesbian couples achieved the right to marry. “An exceptional piece of work by courageous and innovative leaders.” —Eric H. Holder Jr., 82nd US attorney general “Captures the amazing story of the fight for marriage equality—in California and around the country. A remarkable journey recounted with truth and eloquence.” —Gavin Newsom, governor of California
Read Judgments of Love in Criminal Justice book online. Judgments of Love in Criminal Justice by Farhad Malekian, the book is categorize as Law book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: This volume is a new chapter in the future history of law. Its general perspective could not be more original and its critical ethical edge on the state of international law could not be timelier. It explores a compassionate philosophical approach to the genuine substance of law, criminal procedure, international criminal law and international criminal justice. It divides law into three interrelated disciplines, i.e. legality, morality and love. The norm love is derived from human reason for man’s advancement and the securing of natural law. It is more than a mere mandatory norm. Its goal is to generate a normative and positive, powerful result, therefore avoiding any impurity that may exist in the application of other norms because of political or juridical pressures - a one-eyed justice. The norm love also renders justice with the principles of legal accountability, transparency and the high moral, authentic values of humanity. The notion of justice cannot be trusted in the absence of the norm love. The volume indicates the conditions of its efficiency by proving the reasons for its existence in the context of fairness, objectivity and concern for all individuals and entities. The concept of the norm love should be the core academic corpus for lecturing law in all faculties of law. It is simply the enlightenment of the 21st century. A lawyer with requisite knowledge and skill is not a lawyer if he cannot understand that the law does not need a lawyer with ethical competence in its provisions for income purposes but one with knowledge of its essence for the advanced morality of justice and the sheer essence of love for justice.
Read The Jasper Love Trilogy book online. The Jasper Love Trilogy by Onyx Cantor, the book is categorize as Fiction book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: This is the story of one man’s triumph over Cult Religion. As a preacher’s son, Jasper Love struggled to comply with the dogma and bigotry of the unpredictably changeable Doctrine of Good Enough dictated by Cult Religion. He and four sisters labored to comply with cult demands consistent with their mother’s mantra: “People expect preacher’s kids to be perfect.” The Voice of Truth (bestowed on Jasper as a child in a genuine salvation encounter with Jesus Christ) conflicts with voices of deception from pulpits and pews, triggering crippling anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation. Further compounding his confusion is a terrifying awareness of the cult’s distortion of scripture concerning his innate identity. When a Connecticut preacher detects his private struggle, the Bible scholar promises: “If you marry a good Pentecostal girl, this thing will just fade away.” Jasper foolishly accepts the challenge, believing that the pastor’s counsel is based on Truth. A 32-year battle ensues, during which a Pentecostal preacher’s daughter who, aware of his struggle and trained in Exploitation of Advantage, manipulates and controls the miserable husband who strives to suppress and conceal an innate identity which “simply won’t leave me alone.” Cultists despise his genuine relationship with God when the Holy Spirit weakens the tenacious grasp of the antiChrist’s claim on his soul, rescuing him from abominable doctrines through Spiritual Enlightenment to Truth Absolute. Spiritual Warfare ensues, during which he is molested by authority figures, betrayed by cult dishonesty, falls into sin, is attacked by demons, and is delivered by the Holy Ghost through visions of spiritual combat between the demons of Cult Religion and the Angels of Truth. In the end, his foolish attempt to conform with the Doctrine of Good Enough predictably results in the destruction of everything he wasted a lifetime building: marriage, family, home, career, material wealth, and reputation. Yet, in losing all, he is delivered from the Darkness of cult idolatry, whereupon he is finally free to immerse himself in genuine Truth, Light, and Love, breaking the tyrannical chains of Cult Religion. Released by the Holy Spirit from cult bondage, he is at last unleashed to fulfill his destiny: To teach the Truth about Jasper Love (that boundless, unconditional love known only to those who genuinely experience Spiritual Enlightenment) to a people deceived by the hateful harlots of idolatry who are nothing more than power-crazed, authoritarian, self-aggrandizing, despotic antiChrist heretics who worship only one god - CONTROL.

Read Their Angry Creed book online. Their Angry Creed by Herbert Purdy, the book is categorize as Social Science book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: Forty-five years after women's liberationists first laid down their challenge, chanting 'Women demand equality!' and 'I'm a second-class citizen', their narratives are now so universally accepted that few people dare speak truth to the power in the land that feminism has undoubtedly become. However, this book does just that. Opening with a startling revelation in 2014 by Mallory Millett, sister of Kate Millett - a mentally-ill Marxist apologist, and probably the prime mover in the women's liberation movement around 1970 - Their Angry Creed is a detailed exposé of what she and her co-conspirators were planning from the start. The author shows how these activists influenced a generation of women - many of whom are now in prominent and powerful positions - to seek a seismic shift in the power balance between women and men by dividing society along the fault line of gender. Feminism has never been about equality for women. It is cultural Marxism, whose principles uphold matriarchy - the social superiority of women - which is to be achieved through the destruction of marriage, the re-engineering of the family, moving women en masse out of the home and into the workforce, and the disruption of society as we know it. Describing how these activists have already secured unreasonable and unfair privilege for women and girls, he points to the demonisation of manhood, men's effective social emasculation, the invasion of men's social spaces to the point of harassment, and the relentless excision of fathers from families. He ends by warning of a coming backlash from men.
Read EU Criminal Law after Lisbon book online. EU Criminal Law after Lisbon by Valsamis Mitsilegas, the book is categorize as Law book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: This monograph is the first comprehensive analysis of the impact of the entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon on EU criminal law. By focusing on key areas of criminal law and procedure, the book assesses the extent to which the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty has transformed European criminal justice and evaluates the impact of post-Lisbon legislation on national criminal justice systems. The monograph examines the constitutionalisation of EU criminal law after Lisbon, by focusing on the impact of institutional and constitutional developments in the field including the influence of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights on EU criminal law. The analysis covers aspects of criminal justice ranging from criminalisation to judicial co-operation to prosecution to the enforcement of sanctions. The book contains a detailed analysis and evaluation of the powers of the Union to harmonise substantive criminal law and the influence of European Union law on national substantive criminal law; of the evolution of the Europeanisation of prosecution from horizontal co-operation between national criminal justice to forms of vertical integration in the field of prosecution as embodied in the evolution of Eurojust and the establishment of a European Public Prosecutor's Office; of the operation of the principle of mutual recognition (by focusing in particular on the European Arrest Warrant System) and its impact on the relationship between mutual trust and fundamental rights; of EU legislation in the field on criminal procedure, including legislation on the rights of the defendant and the victim; of the relationship between EU criminal law and citizenship of the Union; and of the evolution of an EU model of preventive justice, as exemplified by the proliferation of measures on terrorist sanctions. Throughout the book, the questions of the UK participation in Europe's area of criminal justice and the feasibility of a Europe à-la-carte in EU criminal law are examined. The book concludes by highlighting the possibilities that the Lisbon Treaty opens for the development of a new paradigm of European criminal justice, which places the individual (and not the state), and the protection of fundamental rights (and not security) at its core.
Read Making Space for Indigenous Feminism, 2nd Edition book online. Making Space for Indigenous Feminism, 2nd Edition by Joyce Green, the book is categorize as Social Science book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: The first edition of Making Space for Indigenous Feminism proposed that Indigenous feminism was a valid and indeed essential theoretical and activist position, and introduced a roster of important Indigenous feminist contributors. This new edition builds on the success and research of the first and provides updated and new chapters that cover a wide range of some of the most important issues facing Indigenous peoples today: violence against women, recovery of Indigenous self-determination, racism, misogyny and decolonization. Specifically, new chapters deal with Indigenous resurgence, feminism amongst the Sami and in Aboriginal Australia, neoliberal restructuring in Oaxaca, Canada’s settler racism and sexism, and missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada. Written by Indigenous feminists and allies, this book provides a powerful and original intellectual and political contribution demonstrating that feminism has much to offer Indigenous women, and all Indigenous peoples, in their struggles against oppression.

BOOK OVERVIEWS: The exponential growth of disruptive technology is changing our world. The development of cloud computing, big data, the internet of things, artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, and other related autonomous systems, such as self-driving vehicles, have triggered the emergence of new products and services. These significant technological breakthroughs have opened the door to new economic models such as the sharing and platform-based economy. As a result, companies are becoming increasingly data- and algorithm-driven, coming to be more like “decentralized platforms”. New transaction or payment methods such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, based on trust-building systems using Blockchain, smart contracts, and other distributed ledger technology, also constitute an essential part of this new economic model. The sharing economy and digital platforms also include the everyday exchange of goods allowing individuals to commodify their surplus resources. Information and innovation technologies are used in order to then match these resources with existing demand in the market. Online platforms such as Airbnb, Uber, and Amazon reduce information asymmetry, increase the value of unused resources, and create new opportunities for collaboration and innovation. Moreover, the sharing economy is playing a major role in the transition from exclusive ownership of personal assets toward access-based exploitation of resources. The success of online matching platforms depends not only on the reduction of search costs but also on the trustworthiness of platform operators. From a legal perspective, the uncertainties triggered by the emergence of a new digital reality are particularly urgent. How should these tendencies be reflected in legal systems in each jurisdiction? This book collects a series of contributions by leading scholars in the newly emerging fields of sharing economy and Legal Tech. The aim of the book is to enrich legal debates on the social, economic, and political meaning of these cutting-edge technologies. The chapters presented in this edition attempt to answer some of these lingering questions from the perspective of diverse legal backgrounds.

BOOK OVERVIEWS: South African theologians have long been powerful voices in the hard-fought political transition from a repressive apartheid regime to a young democracy. A key question is: What should the public role of churches be in this democracy? The simultaneously emerging global discussion on public theology has been one important point of reference, offering a number of frameworks for thinking about the churches' public role. This book considers answers given by South African theologians, beginning with an historical review of approaches taken during apartheid and tracing their development in the two decades following. (Series: Theology in the Public Square / Theologie in der Ã?Â?ffentlichkeit, Vol. 8) [Subject: Religious Studies, African Studies]
Read Transnational Migration and Human Security book online. Transnational Migration and Human Security by Thanh-Dam Truong,Des Gasper, the book is categorize as Law book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: The volume places the migration-development-security nexus in the field of transnational studies. Rather than treating these three categories as self-evident, the essays excavate aspects of power and privilege built into their governing frameworks and conflicting rationales apparent in practices of control. Bringing together diverse experiences and case studies, the volume highlights the problematic nature of maintaining distinct and disconnected frameworks of governance. It argues for a new approach that demonstrates the significance and usefulness of comparative ethics in conceptualising migration from a human-centered and gendered perspective in order to address the multi-facetted and multi-dimensional nature and meanings of "security".
Read Homosexuality in the Jurisprudence of the Supreme Court of India book online. Homosexuality in the Jurisprudence of the Supreme Court of India by Yeshwant Naik, the book is categorize as Law book. Read More »
BOOK OVERVIEWS: The book analyses the Indian Supreme Court’s jurisprudence on homosexuality, its current approach and how its position has evolved in the past ten years. It critically analyses the Court’s landmark judgments and its perception of equality, family, marriage and human rights from an international perspective. With the help of European Court of Human Rights’ judgments and international conventions, it compares the legal and social discrimination meted out to the Indian LGBTI community with that in the international arena. From a social anthropological perspective, it demonstrates how gay masculinity, although marginalized, serves as a challenge to patriarchy and hegemonic masculinity. This unique book addresses the lack of in-depth literature on gay masculinity, elaborately narrating and analysing contemporary gay masculinity and emerging gay lifestyles in India and highlighting the latest research on the subject of homosexuality in general and in particular with respect to India. It also discusses several new issues concerning the gay men in India supported by the living law approach put forth by Eugen Ehrlich.
